Mahdi Asgari

Mahdi Asgari (Ph.D., University of Kentucky) is an assistant professor of practice in the School of Government and Public Policy. He teaches Principles of Economics for Public Policy to MPA and Intermediate Economics for Public Policy to MPP students. A specialist in water economics, policy, and agricultural economics, his research utilizes advanced hydro-economic modeling to address critical challenges surrounding regional water supplies, innovative digital management technologies, and the Colorado River water shortage. Mahdi’s academic and professional experience spans institutions across the United States and Iran, including postdoctoral appointments at the University of Wyoming and University of California, Riverside. Dr. Asgari has a Ph.D. in agricultural economics from the University of Kentucky, an MSc. in economics from the University of Kentucky, and a Master of Legal Studies from the University of Arizona. Prior to moving to the U.S., he completed a B.S. and M.S. in agricultural economics at Shiraz University and University of Tehran in Iran.
